Warehousing services continue strong

The port’s short turnaround times and excellent connections to the main roadways are also ideal for fast-paced distribution activities across the country.

In the vicinity of the port, we have approximately one hundred thousand square meters of storage space as well as extensive paved and guarded yard space, for example, for the intermediate storage of project transports. Warehousing and logistics services for customers of the port of Turku are provided by a number of different operators, thus enabling each customer to choose the partner that best suits their needs. In addition to warehousing services, some operators also provide cargo handling services, which further facilitates the movement of goods in and out of the port.

The Port of Turku’s own warehouse facilities are mainly located in the West Harbour and Pansio area, where plenty of new storage space has been built in recent years. Despite the increased capacity, the utilisation rate of our warehouse facilities was very high in 2025; in practice, the storage space was sold out for the entire year.

In response to the strong demand and increasing shipping volumes, the Port of Turku retains its capacity to rapidly launch new warehouse construction projects in areas of both the West Harbour and Pansio. Possible investments will be made by the Port and facilities will be leased to customers through long-term contracts.

In addition, the Port of Turku’s own warehousing services are supplemented by Turku Free Zone Company, which has been providing reliable and versatile warehousing services in the port since 1964. Today, Turku Free Zone Company is a large, state-of-the-art warehouse logistics operator. Its modern and functional storage space is able to meet different customer needs and the warehouse management systems represent the latest technology, including real-time and fully digital communications.

Turku Free Zone Company’s year exceeded expectations

Turku Free Zone Company’s business recovered from the downturn of the previous year with net sales in 2025 reaching nearly the record-high figures of 2023. The total turnover was EUR 4.1 million. The good result for the company was boosted by the continuation of collaboration with the Royal Caribbean shipping company in the form of a new cruise ship project at the Meyer Turku shipyard. In other respects, the flow of goods was lower in 2025 and the movement of goods from warehouses was slower. The storage of imported cars, in particular, has continued to shrink due to decreasing car sales in Finland.

As an extension of the massive facility investments in recent years, Turku Free Zone Company invested in an upgrade of its surveillance system in 2025. In connection with the upgrade, sixty new surveillance cameras were installed around the company’s area of operations. The new remote surveillance system facilitates synergies with other port control systems. Turku Free Zone Company is also involved in the green transition process being undertaken by the Port of Turku, which involves the introduction of more eco-friendly solutions for the heating of facilities and the replacement of traditional lights with LED lighting.

The outlook for the current and future years is stable. The contract signed with Royal Caribbean with regard to logistics services for cruise ship construction provides a strong foundation upon which to build future business. The further increase in business is also signalled by new invitations to tender, which have produced new warehousing contracts in the early months of 2026.

The future of Turku Free Zone Company will also be affected by an upcoming shift in ownership. The share of ownership held by the Port of Turku will be increasing to 100 per cent, making Turku Free Zone Company a wholly owned subsidiary of the Port of Turku. This change will take place during 2026.
