Today

”As the lease agreement of our current premises is expiring and our personnel structure is growing tighter, we have taken a closer look at our need for space. Thanks to increasing remote work and more efficient working methods our need for space has decreased considerably, and it would be ecologically burdening to maintain too large premises for our current number of staff. The new, more compact premises are not just an environmentally sounder option, but also a more practical solution for our current needs”, says Managing Director Erik Söderholm.

“The new facilities provide our staff with a compact and efficient working environment, designed to meet the demands of a modern office,” says Managing Director Erik Söderström.

Mr Söderholm considers the new location of the Port office closer to the passenger harbour strategically beneficial. The proximity of the port generates natural synergy in the operations and enables even better co-operation with the port services and logistics operators.

Modernisation of offices supports efficient and sustainable operations

Construction Engineer Juuso Varjonen tells that the layout of the office premises in Linnankatu was redesigned to serve better in Port of Turku’s office use. In the renovation project, the need for space was determined and the required modifications were made, including demolition work and building of new partition walls. The old wall and ceiling surfaces were painted, and the sanitary facilities were rebuilt. The plans aimed at utilising existing materials, and for example floorings were not redone unnecessarily. The old sliding glass walls were also utilised.

“In the meeting and conference rooms, we will be utilizing the equipment and systems that the Port already has in place, and they will be upgraded as needed,” explains Construction Engineer Juuso Varjonen.

“In connection with the renovation, the lighting of the premises, water supply pipes, most of the interior surfaces and drainage in the yard were renewed. Air heat pumps were installed for more comfortable working, and the ventilation in the crawlspace of the building was ensured with mechanical ventilation. Before the premises are taken into use, the ventilation ducts will be swept and the air flows will be measured and adjusted.”

The new premises provide the Port office with an excellent setting for developing the services further. The move is an important step towards a more modern, efficient and environmentally sound operations. We wish our customers welcome to visit our new premises in Linnankatu!
