Port invests in energy saving
The Port of Turku is renewing the lighting in the port area by investing in energy saving LED lights. The project involves replacing the old high pressure sodium-vapour lamps in the port area with new LED lights and installing a new intelligent control system for the lights. As a result, the energy consumption of the port lighting will be halved. The project will be implemented in co-operation with Turku Energia, and investment subsidy has been applied for from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
In addition to new lights in the port area, the passenger terminals and warehouses will also switch to LED lighting. To improve the energy efficiency of port operations, the Port is developing more efficient use of on-shore power in vessels and the use of district heat and cold to make the passenger terminals more comfortable.
